A soldier was injured in a brief exchange of fire following a suspected intrusion attempt at the Nagrota Military Station in Jammu, the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps reported on Saturday. According to the official statement, an alert sentry noticed suspicious movement near the perimeter and issued a challenge, which led to a short gunfire exchange. The sentry sustained minor injuries. A search operation is currently underway to locate the suspect or suspects involved in the incident.

The situation at the border appears to be part of broader military tensions. On the same evening, a precautionary blackout was enforced in multiple districts of Punjab, including Pathankot, Ludhiana, Moga, Ferozepur, and Jalandhar. Authorities urged citizens to remain calm, stressing that these measures were preemptive and there was no immediate threat to public safety.
“Due to recent news in the media and as a precautionary measure, we are turning off street lights in some parts of Jalandhar. Blackout is not called at this time. Please be calm as Jalandhar is unaffected at this point of time,” read a statement from the Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner.
Meanwhile, tensions between India and Pakistan have intensified following reported violations of an understanding reached earlier in the day between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries. At a special press briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri accused Pakistan of breaching the terms of the agreement.
“For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier this evening between the DGMOs of India and Pakistan. This is a breach of the understanding. The armed forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response, and we take very, very serious note of these violations,” Misri said.
He further noted that Indian forces have been instructed to respond firmly to any repeat violations along both the International Border and the Line of Control.
The latest developments come amid Operation Sindoor, launched by India on May 7 in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives. As part of the operation, Indian forces targeted nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). In response, Pakistan has allegedly escalated tensions through unprovoked artillery and drone incursions.
India has called on Pakistan to act responsibly and de-escalate the situation, but the ground reality remains tense with ongoing security operations and heightened alertness along the border.
